Homemade Orange Julius recipe made with milk, sugar, orange juice and ice cubes. A copycat recipe that everyone loves in the morning!

Orange Julius Recipe (1)

Just looking at those glasses of homemade Orange Julius makes me think of a sunny, happy morning. Wouldn’t you agree? This easy breakfast drink recipe is such a twist on the classic glass of orange juice. Try it for a brunch or a special holiday morning!

At this point in time, not many of us shop in malls anymore! I remember in high school just wandering around the mall, grabbing a snack here and here, and just browsing with friends. A stop for a drink was always a must on one of those trips!

Whether you’re familiar with the sweet, creamsicle flavor of classic Orange Julius or not, you will absolutely LOVE this drink. These are ready in less than 5 minutes, too – super quick! Use your own reusable travel cup with a straw for a treat on the go.

What’s in this recipe?

If you don’t normally keep orange juice in the refrigerator, I would think that would be the only thing you’d need to pick up for this recipe. I’d bet the rest of the ingredients you already have: milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and ice. That’s it!

Orange Julius Recipe (2)

Is this the original Orange Julius recipe?

Unfortunately, no. The company says they used fresh orange juice, crushed ice, syrup, and a proprietary powder that was a secret recipe. Apparently it still is to this day! Having said that, this recipe is DARN CLOSE to the original drink. I’m sure you will just adore it!

Did Orange Julius have raw egg?

Apparently the original recipe did, but the company changed it to egg white powder in later years. Either way, there’s no raw egg in this recipe so no need to worry!

How many servings does this recipe make?

You’ll get two servings from one batch of this recipe. You can easily halve it if you’re just making it for one. Perfect for individual blenders!

Can I use almond milk instead?

Sure! Try this using your favorite variety of milk. It might not have the same creaminess as regular milk, but I’m sure it will still taste great!

How to make this recipe:

  1. Get out your high powered blender (or whatever blender you have at home). Pour in cold orange juice and cold milk.

2. Add in the sugar, the vanilla extract, and the ice cubes to the blender.

3. Blend all of the ingredients well, stopping and starting as needed to fully chop the ice. This may take a few minutes depending on the strength of your blender!

4. Divide the homemade Orange Julius among two tall glasses. Serve immediately!

I like to use fun straws and orange slices as a garnish for these fun breakfast drinks!

Can I skip the sugar in this recipe?

Sure! You could make it first without the sugar and taste to see if it needs any sweetener. Feel free to use your favorite natural sugar instead!

How long does this stay frozen?

Not long! This is definitely a recipe to make right before you intend on drinking.

Can this be used in a home slushie machine?

It might! Be sure to check your machines directions before trying. This drink has a thicker consistency and may not work with some dispensers.

Can I use frozen orange juice concentrate?

Sure! Just prepare the orange juice as you would using the directions on the package before proceeding with this recipe.

Can I freeze this for easy preparation later?

No, the frozen consistency wouldn’t be the same if you froze the ingredients. If you’d like to freeze the individual measurements, and thaw them before using in the drink, you can do that!

Recipe pro tips:

  • Grab some mason jar glasses for a fun way to serve these drinks.
  • Plan to make homemade Orange Julius for your family on Easter Morning or Christmas Morning!
  • Make a fruit kebab using a wooden skewer and chopped fruit as a fun garnish
  • Top glasses with whipped cream to take this drink up a notch!

Flavor variations:

Swap out the chilled orange juice and use these ingredients instead to change up the flavor!

  • Lemonade
  • Pineapple juice
