This month, we want to spotlight Visal Heng, owner of Lavish Nails, in Lexington, Kentucky. Fleeing Cambodia during the Khmer Rouge era, his parents settled in Seattle and then moved to Kentucky so his mom could fill a nail tech position. Initially striving to be a pharmacist, Visal's first job was working in his parent's nail salon saving money to put himself through school. However, he realized his passion for nails overshadowed his interest in pharmacy. With his business partner Ana by his side, he opened Lavish Nails and quickly expanded their business to three locations. Now with a multi-location business, Visal is updating his primary location in Lexington to include lashes, waxing, and massage. The success of Lavish Nails stands as a testament to the hard work, dedication, and entrepreneurial spirit Visal puts into his business. He expressed, "As long as you're providing a quality service and something that a client can be happy and feel good about themselves when they walk out the door, the clientele will come to you." We are so proud of Visal Heng for pursuing his passion and becoming a thriving business owner for himself and his community. The Moments, where we highlight successes, grit, and growth in the beauty and wellness industry. This month, we want to celebrate Gisel Campbell, an esthetician with over ten years of experience, and owner of Elevate Esthetics, in Centerville, Ohio.Through her passion and hard work Gisel was able to grow her business from a small storefront in Washington Township to a renovated and spacious 3,000 square space, which she was drawn to because of the vibrant community and the city's strong support for small businesses. Prior to the move, Gisel offered brow, lash, waxing, and spray tanning services, but now with the additional space she's able to expand her menu to include relaxation facials, anti-aging facials, acne facials, and teeth whitening, and has a vision to grow her team and add more services in the future. Elevate Esthetics sets itself apart from other similar businesses through its commitment to providing an inclusive and judgment-free environment. Gisel and her team prioritize creating a safe and welcoming space where all customers, regardless of size or identity, can feel comfortable and valued. She expresses, "We constantly are getting feedback from our customers about how this space makes them feel safe, and so that to me is extremely important for people to feel safe and welcomed when they walk into our studio for no matter what service they’re getting, no matter what background they are. As a plus-size woman, I have experienced a little bit of judgment in the beauty industry... and I have made it my mission to make sure that no one ever feels that way."With that mission in mind, Gisel and her team designed their new space to reflect inclusivity, stating, "Before it was a lot of black and white and now it’s bright, airy and very tropical." Gisel is dedicated to how her clients feel before, during, and after a service saying, "I ultimately want them to feel more elevated in their state of mind when they leave my building than when they walked in." We are so proud of Gisel Campbell for providing a space where people can be themselves and filling a gap in her community.
