directions

  • Step 1: In a bowl or seal-able plastic bag. Combine stir fry sauce, Asian toasted sesame dressing, soy sauce, and teriyaki sauce. Add chicken and mix well with the sauce. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  • Step 2: In a medium bowl toss coleslaw mix with 2 tablespoons of Asian sesame dressing. Set aside.
  • Step 3: Heat olive oil in a wok over high heat. Add chicken with the marinade and stir fry until the chicken is fully cooked. Remove from the wok and transfer to a bowl. Add about 1/2 inch of oil to the wok over medium high. Fold the wonton wrappers into a triangle formation but do not seal. Place into the hot oil and fry until golden brown on one side. Turn once and fry until golden brown on the other side. Drain on paper towels.
  • Step 4: To make tacos- place a small amount of the chicken mixture into the bottom of the fried wonton. Top with coleslaw mixture, green onion, cilantro and red onion.

  1. How do you fry the wontons without a taco press and keep them open (in the shape of a taco)?

  1. This was good but needed tweaks to really taste like Applebee's. It wasn't sweet enough so I added about 2-3 tablespoons of white sugar and a teaspoon of peanut butter for that distinct Asian flavor. It also needs lime juice. After the tweaks it was perfect!

  2. Thank you so much for this.. we have been working on this for some time. The Asian toasted sesame dressing was not the taste we were looking for however in our travels to find that taste I believe we have come close. I purchased LeeKumKee Plum Sauce at Wal-Mart in the Asian sauce area.... Im telling you this is as close as anything. it has a slight hint of the ginger and the sweet contrast is "IT"..... and we have tried soooooooo many. Just a suggestion and thanks again...... the combo of all the sauces is wonderful.

  3. I modified this recipe with Denise S's tweak. Got Mae Ploy brand asian chili sauce from Kroger and used it in the marinade instead of sesame dressing. I cut the sesame dressing in half in the coleslaw (To 1 Tablespoon) and used 1 Tablespoon of marzetti's coleslaw dressing in its place. IT...WAS...AWESOME!

  4. Thanks for posting this delicious recipe!! It was loved by all!! The flavour deserves 5 stars but I took one off because of the measurements for the marinade are way too much (at least double what is needed) and the coleslaw can easily be doubled. Next time I will make 1/3 - 1/2 of the marinade and double the coleslaw. Also, I missed the fresh lime.

  5. The proportions of the marinade ingredients are off. This recipe is way to salty. I'm going to try someone's suggestion of the sweet Asian sauce.

  1. I used to work here, the difference is huge if you don't use marinettis coleslaw dressing and you're supposed to use spicy Asian chili the marinade as well as drizzle stir fry sauce on top of taco after prepared topped with cilantro and squeeze a lime on it, i prefer lemon though.
